On Saturday night, July 23, The Villages Amphitheater brings the country music legend and Grand Ole’ Opry member, Roy Clark, to the Fayetteville stage.
Most people immediately recall Clark’s fun playing and joking on the classic show “Hee Haw.” Clark hosted that popular TV show for 25 years. He has been seen on many other shows too: In the mid-60’s he was a regular guest on “The Beverly Hillbillies” and went on to become the first country music artist to guest host “The Tonight Show” for Johnny Carson. He has appeared on many other TV shows too numerous to mention and hosted many TV specials, including “Country Music, USA,” “Country Goes To Switzerland,” “The Disney Anniversary Special,” “The Academy Of Country Music Awards, and many others.
Clark’s musical achievements are extensive as well. He received the “Entertainer of the Year” award from both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association; “Comedy Act of the Year” from the Academy of Country Music; “Country Music Star of the Year” from the American Guild of Variety Artists; “Instrumentalist of the Year” six times from the Music City News Awards; “Picker of the Year”, and “Best Country Guitarist” from Guitar magazine; … the list goes on and on.
Through the years, Clark has recorded a string of hits, including, “Honeymoon Feeling,” “The Tips of My Fingers,” “Thank God and Greyhound You’re Gone,” “Come Live With Me” … but perhaps he is best associated with the stirring, “Yesterday When I Was Young” and his own 12-string guitar version of “Malaguena”.
Amphitheater Director, Brian Wismer, commented on the upcoming show.
“The man is 78 years old and still has a great time entertaining. He can still school us on the electric guitar, too. Come watch this legend perform while he is still actively touring the country.”
Some tickets still remain and are available at the Train Depot and also via the website, www.VillagesAmphitheater.com, which offers specific seat selection. Individual tickets are $20 for general admission on the lawn, and $30 for reserved seats.
Appearing next at the Villages on August 13th is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The 2011 concert series is presented by Mercedes-Benz of South Atlanta.
