On Saturday night, June 18, The Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville hosts the classic 1960’s pop group, The Association. Also appearing that evening will be the local group R&B, Inc.
The sweet vocal harmonies along with the intricately woven instrumentation that is the signature sound of The Association would become a cornerstone of American pop music in the late 1960’s. With over 80 Million records sold, The Association were heard constantly on radio stations all over the country during that time. Their hit, “Never My Love” was even ranked as one of the most played songs of all time on American radio. Between 1966 – 1969, The Association also hit the Top 10 with “Along Comes Mary,” and scored two #1 hits with “Windy” and “Cherish.”
Many people discovered them on their various TV appearances of that time including the Ed Sullivan Show, American Bandstand, and the Dick Cavett Show.
Amphitheater Director, Brian Wismer commented on the upcoming show, “This is going to be a really fun and upbeat performance. I have spoken to many people who remember dancing to “Cherish” with their high-school sweetheart. We want to encourage everyone that night to do that dance again.”
Some tickets still remain and are available at the Train Depot and also via the website, www.VillagesAmphitheater.com, which offers specific seat selection. Individual tickets are $15 for general admission on the lawn, and $25 for reserved seats.
Also appearing at the Villages later this summer are Simply Sinatra on July 9, Roy Clark on July 23, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on August 13. The 2011 concert series is presented by Mercedes-Benz of South Atlanta.
The Villages Amphitheater is owned by the Downtown Development Authority and managed by the Main Street Tourism Association of Fayetteville.
