Revised development plans for the Chick-fil-A on North Glynn Street in Fayetteville were unanimously approved May 24 by the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission. For restaurant customers the approval means a quicker trip through the drive-thru window by adding a second lane.

The proposal called for reconfiguring a number of parking spaces adjacent to the existing drive-thru lane on the building’s south side, thereby making room for a second drive-thru lane and changing the current perpendicular parking spaces to ones that are diagonal.

The flow of drive-thru traffic will be handled essentially by order-takers since at some point the the outermost drive-thru lane will have to cross over into the lane closest to the store to pick up the order.

The upgrade to the drive-thru system will help accommodate the 40 percent of the restaurant business that uses the drive-thru window, restaurant representatives said previously.

The commission’s approval also addressed landscape plans pertaining to the removal of a landscaped island to make room for the second drive-thru lane. More plantings will be included in the area and landscaping throughout the entire property will be enhanced. This will result in more landscape density in the area of the drive-thru lane, city planning staff said.

Another facet of the project included designated restaurant parking spaces just across the access drive on the building’s east side. City code standards allow for additional off-street parking to be located within 400 feet of a building. Chick-fil-A will have 23 such spaces along with the 67 parking spaces immediately surrounding the restaurant.
