Business is booming at Chick-fil-A Dwarf House. The restaurant on North Glynn Street at Banks Crossing went before the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission at the May 12 work session with a proposal to add a second drive-thru lane that will parallel the one currently in use. Approximately 40 percent of the restaurant’s business comes by way of the drive-thru window.
The proposal calls for reconfiguring a number of parking spaces adjacent to the existing drive-thru lane on the building’s south side, thereby adding a second drive-thru lane and changing the parking spaces to ones that are diagonal.
The flow of drive-thru traffic would be handled essentially by order-takers since at some point the the outermost drive-thru lane will have to cross over into the lane closest to the store to pick up the order.
Landscape plans for the project will also have to be addressed. City Senior Planner Linwood Robinson said the development plan calls for the removal of a landscaped island to make room for the second drive-thru lane. The applicant’s plan is to replace that density with more plantings in the area and enhance the rest of the landscaping throughout the entire property.
Another facet of the project includes designated restaurant parking just across the access drive on the building’s east side. City code standards allow for additional off-street parking to be located within 400 feet of a building. Chick-fil-A plans to have 23 such spaces along with the 67 parking spaces immediately surrounding the restaurant.
If approved by the commission at the May 23 meeting the project could get underway as early as June, the board was told.
City planning staff are recommending approval of the development plans contingent upon approval of the revised landscape plans.
