The Southern Crescent Chorale makes its eighth appearance at the Villages Amphitheater with “toe tapping music” at their concert “Dancin’!” on Saturday, May 14 at 8 p.m.
The 70 voice choir will fill the evening air with dance music of all types from country and R & B to dance standards and movie favorites. Some of the songs you’ll hear are “Your Mama Don’t Dance,” “Dancing Queen,” “YMCA,” “Charleston,” and “Some Days You Gotta Dance.” There will be something for everyone at this rockin’ concert.
The Chorale will be accompanied by The Jazz League Band and will be singing many of your favorites so mark your calendars now.
Special guest soloist will be Toni Byrd, a local favorite who appears all over the Atlanta area. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, she has made Georgia her home since the year 2000. In addition to singer/songwriter, add actress to her status. Byrd was cast in a primary role in the movie, “The Wettest County in the World, which is filming locally.
Byrd has performed in many venues in and around the Atlanta area including the Ritz Carlton-Reynolds Plantation,tThe Villages Amphitheater and many more. In addition, Byrd opened for Take 6 at the Rialto Theater along with her big band family, The Peachtree Jazz Edition under the musical direction of David Gaissert. She has been the vocalist for this popular big band since 2003. She currently performs weekly at The Georgia Shrimp Company and also a weekly performer at Founder’s Restaurant and Bar in Senoia.
Byrd recorded her first CD, with partner, Neal Wauchope, entitled “No Greater Love….Remembering Billie Holiday” which was released in November of last year.
Concert-goers can bring their own picnic and drinks or plan to buy food and beverages at the concert. Chick-fil-A Dwarf House will be selling concessions. Come early and take dance lessons from Rachel Ferguson-Garrison starting at 7:15 p.m. There will be a drawing at intermission. Broadway Diner Baci, and Olde Courthouse Tavern are providing the prizes. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors (60 and up).
