Fayette County avoided serious storm damage overnight that wrought likely tornados in neighboring Spalding County.
The Spalding storm was Fayette’s closest call, potentially threatening southeast Fayette near the Brooks and Woolsey areas. Damage in Spalding was significant along Ga. Highway 92 north of Griffin, as aerial news video showed leveled buildings and damaged mobile homes.
No significant damage was reported in Fayette County to speak of, emergency officials said. Fayette crews are being dispatched to Spalding County this morning to help assist them in clearing roads, said Lt. Donnie Davis of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
The Peachtree City Fire Department responded to one call during the storm, a minor structure fire at an outbuilding that most likely was not caused by the storm.

2:22 a.m. Fayette fire crews report all residents on Riveree Road area in Spalding County are OK. Were delayed a bit by trees and powerlines downed by storm; PTC keeping eye on flooding at Tinsley Mill Village.
1:47 a.m. Power outage leaves multiple signals out on Hwy 54 east in PTC; vehicle stuck in mud on Senoia Road; trees down across Inman Road. Hwy. 92 open all the way to Spalding County line.
1:10 a.m. Fayette County Fire unit headed to home in Spalding County to assist residents trapped in house off Riveree Road. Ga. Highway 92 is closed betwen Griffin and Fayetteville, according to Bill Taylor of Spalding County radio station WKEU, as told to WSB Channel 2.
1 a.m. Tornado watch extended to 8 a.m. for Fayette Co.
12:36 a.m. Tornado warning LIFTED for southeast Fayette County. Storm producing rotation has left the county.
