Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Iola Lovvorn, 89 was Friday, April 8 at 12:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home with Brother Dallas Culver officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, College Park, GA.
She passed away April 5, 2011 at St. Vincent’s East Hospital.
Mrs. Lovvorn was born on April 16, 1921. She received her master’s degree from Peabody College. She began teaching elementary school at West Pointe, AL. She moved to teach at Austinville Elementary in Decatur, AL, and later at College Park, GA. She worked approximately 2 years with the Rev. Billy Graham ministry. She returned to the school system as a counselor. She was a member of 1st United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, GA & also a member of Austinville United Methodist Church in Decatur, AL. She loved to play the organ and sing old gospel hymns. She made ceramics and her favorite past time was spending time with her friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Jefferson Lovvorn; son, Tommy Lovvorn; parents, Lucy and Grady Aldridge. She is survived by her son, Richard Lovvorn (Paige); sisters, Ann Hodges; grandchildren, Shannon Dunn (Brian), Justin Lovvorn (Nikki), Eric Lovvorn (Lisa), and Brent Lovvorn; 7 great-grandchildren.
