Coweta County road crews on Wednesday began working on a collapsed drain pipe on Rawson Road that has required the temporary closure of the street. The pipe is expected to be replaced and the road re-opened on March 16.

Coweta County Road Department Director William Cawthorne in a March 4 letter said the cross drain pipe had completely collapsed and is causing the roadway to be undermined which could lead to the collapse of the roadway.

Approximately a quarter-mile in length, Rawson Road intersects with Bob Smith Road approximately one mile north of Willis Road in east Coweta.

Cawthorne said there are 10 homes on Rawson Road that will be affected by the road work. Arrangements will be made with homeowners to impact them as little as possible during the pipe replacement work, he said. A letter has been sent to homeowners explaining the replacement process and providing them with emergency phone numbers, Cawthorne added.

Cawthorne also said the county fire department and other emergency responders had been notified of the work.
