A seven-mile road resurfacing project for portions of Ga. Highway 34 in Newnan and east Coweta County was announced Monday by the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (DOT). At nearly $5 million, the project was one of 31 approved at a total cost of $57 million.

The Hwy. 34 project will extend from Jackson Street in Newnan to east of Ga. Highway 154 in the Thomas Crossroads area.

The 6.99-mile project low bid for $4,879,800 was awarded to Marietta-based C.W. Matthews Contracting Co, Inc.

The project will include milling, inlay, plant mix resurfacing and single surface paving treatment. The completion date was set for Nov. 30.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction projects on interstates and state routes. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to inclement weather. Callers also can transfer to operators to request assistance or report incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. More information is available at www.511ga.org.
