Caregiving for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or related dementia can be overwhelming. To better address the diverse needs of caregivers, Fayette Senior Services (FSS) and Piedmont Fayette Hospital will co-host two highly informative workshops offered by Sixty Plus Older Adult Services of Piedmont Hospital (Atlanta). Both workshops feature geriatric care professionals from Piedmont Hospital’s Sixty Plus Older Adult Services program, which provides educational and supportive programs designed to enhance the well being of older adults and their families.
• Diagnosis of Dementia: Now What? – Thursday, Jan. 27 – 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This workshop includes practical information about understanding dementia, emotional issues, legal/financial concerns, community resources, and using the healthcare system. Featured speakers include Dr. Al Martinez of the Neuropsychology Center of Peachtree City and Mary Lynn Kirby and Victoria Farrell of the Fayette Law Group.
• Managing Dementia Behaviors & Symptoms – Tuesday, Feb. 22 – 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The session will cover communication techniques, reducing agitation, and the role of medication in managing difficult dementia behaviors.
The workshops will be held at Fayette Senior Services Life Enrichment Center located at 4 Center Drive in Fayetteville (across from the Fayette County Justice Center).
