A long-standing request of quite a few Peachtree City residents may soon become a reality. A developer has approached the city about locating a bowling alley at the former site of Nature’s Nursery on Ga. Highway 74, located between south Kedron Drive and Wisdom Road.

Mayor Don Haddix briefed the Development Authority of Peachtree City on the proposal Monday night. He said the developer owns two other bowling alleys in Gwinnett County and plans to have a 36,000-square-foot building.

One hang-up that has to be addressed is the drawings for the site which show the building sticking out about 20 feet farther in one direction than allowed by city ordinance, Haddix said. The mayor said he thought that fix could happen easily by moving the snack bar and pro shop from one end of the building to another location.

“I’ve heard a lot of, ‘I want a bowling alley,’” Haddix said. “So I want a bowling alley.”

DAPC’s Mark Hollums noted that he previously has spoken with the Brunswick corporation about other potential bowling alley sites, including at one time the “baby Kroger” site that will soon host the Fresh Market grocery store.

It was noted that the police department was asked to determine if bowling alleys might attract crime, but the research determined that isn’t a worry.
