Eighteen-year-old Fayetteville resident Joshua Marcus Williams has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide in the Oct. 11 death of another Fayetteville man, James Buck, after Williams ran a stop sign at McBride and Antioch roads and crashed into Buck’s vehicle.
Williams was arrested over the weekend on charges of second-degree vehicular homicide, a misdemeanor, and failure to stop at a stop sign, according to officials with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. The charge of second-degree vehicular homicide was imposed because the death occurred without intent, officials said.
Williams was later released on bond.
Buck had been traveling north on Antioch Road and Williams was traveling east on McBride Road, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s investigators said that Buck, 55, had been driving a 2004 Toyota Sequoia and had entered the intersection at approximately 8:50 a.m. when his vehicle was struck after Williams, who was driving a 1995 Nissan Altima, failed to stop at the stop sign.
Sheriff’s investigators with the Traffic Enforcement Section said the collision caused Buck’s vehicle to leave the roadway and overturn. Buck, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Buck was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.
Williams and a passenger in his vehicle were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
