The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of several large air conditioning units stolen in the past few weeks from businesses along Ga. Highway 85 North.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Brent Rowan said several air conditioning units were stolen on Sept. 30, Oct. 13 and Oct. 26 from businesses on Carnegie Place and on Ellis Road. The Ellis Road thefts occurred at the same business.
Rowan said the thefts are currently under investigation.
The thefts of air conditioning units for copper and other metals have been more sporadic in the past year compared to those across the region a few years ago prior to the passage of a state law that made selling scrap copper more difficult.
