PTC Sewer Rate Increase
Last Monday, October 11, following a public hearing, the Peachtree City Water & Sewerage Authority voted to restructure and increase rates. Although the Mayor and City Council do not have approval/denial authority over WASA’s rates, they will discuss the issue at the October 21 City Council Meeting.
PTC City Council Meeting – Thursday, October 21
This week, Council will again consider the revised Telecommunications Towers and Antennas Ordinance. Other agenda items include Council discussion of the WASA Rate Increase, a request to Fayette County to withdraw from the Atlanta Regional Commission, official removal of the TDK Boulevard Extension and the Crosstown Drive widening from the County Transportation Plan. The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, and the public is welcome. Residents can also watch the meeting live or on-demand at www.peachtree-city.org/video. PTC Traffic Advisory – Path Closure near Battery Way Docks on October 23
The tunnel under Peachtree Parkway leading to the Battery Way Boat Ramp and docks will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to noon for maintenance. Please avoid this area during the posted closing.
Parents – What’s your Gang IQ?
Local law enforcement agencies have launched a new Fayette Gang Website, www.fayettegangs.org, to educate citizens on the different aspects of gang lifestyle and its effects on the community. The site gives parents and citizens signs to look for when dealing with their children or the children of the neighborhood, along with prevention tips and a place to report incidents believed to be gang related or report graffiti found in the community. The website is a partnership among the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, Fayetteville Police Department, Peachtree City Police Department, Tyrone Police Department, and the Marshal’s Office.
PTC Alcohol License Training Seminar
The Peachtree City Police Department will hold a training course for the owners and managers of Peachtree City businesses licensed to sell, handle, serve, and distribute alcoholic beverages on Friday, November 5, 9:00 am to 11:00 am, at City Hall. Save $$ on Books for School Reading Lists
The Peachtree City Library has a “Classics Stash” of donated paperback and hardback books on the back side of the shelf across from the Teen Zone. This collection of “honor books” includes some of the books on local schools’ reading lists. Honor books do not have to be checked out, but patrons are “on their honor” to return them. If you can’t find what you need in the regular collection, please try the Classics Stash. For more information, ask any of the folks at the circulation desks.
PTC Project Updates
Baby Kroger / Fresh Market Update – Demolition is well underway at the former Kroger location at Peachtree Crossing Shopping Center (Peachtree Parkway N at Highway 54). Plans have been submitted for Fresh Market, with an expected opening date in March 2011.
MacDuff Parkway Tunnel Connection – Staff continues to work to obtain the necessary easements for this project – a modification to the proposed route may require additional funding, and the engineers are currently working on the redesign and cost estimate.

Pumpkin Sale Underway – Now through October 31. The Peachtree City Fire Department’s annual Pumpkin Sale goes through October 31, at Leach Station 81 (on Paschall Road at Highway 74 South) and at Weber Station 83 (Peachtree Parkway south of Crosstown). Funds raised help to purchase equipment for the department and Volunteer Firefighters’ Association. Prices – $5 to $11. Pie pumpkins are $2, minis and gourds are 50 cents, and Indian corn is $4 per bunch.
General Election – Voting now through November 2. Early Voting is underway 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, at the Fayette County Elections Office in Fayetteville. Advance voting will expand to the Peachtree City and Tyrone Libraries between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the week of October 25 – 29. No voting will occur on Monday, November 1, and residents vote at their regular polling place on Tuesday, November 2. Visit www.sos.ga.gov/mvp/ for sample ballots and to locate your polling place.
Jack-O-Lantern Contest for kids of all ages – Thursday & Friday, October 21 & 22. Kids and adults alike are invited to decorate or carve your best pumpkin design and enter our jack-o-lantern carving contest! Bewitching prizes will be awarded to the winners of the creepiest, funniest and most creative designs in the kids category (up to 12 years of age) and adults (13 years and older). All pumpkins must have the following information attached to the bottom: Name, Address, Phone # and Age. The Fred staff will begin accepting jack-o-lanterns at the Box Office on Thursday, October 21, with a deadline of 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, and entries will help decorate for the Saturday, October 23, Halloween Party at The Fred.

Great Chili Challenge – Saturday, October 23, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at Shakerag Knoll on McIntosh Trail. Hosted by the Line Creek Civitan Club. In addition to judging by local dignitaries, there will be great chili tasting for all, a bake sale, drawings, Halloween Costume Contest, petting zoo, and more.
