Pam Reid, Fayette Youth Protection Homes, Inc. Board member and Chairperson of the 2011 Fayette Youth Power Parade recently appeared at the Fayette County Board of Education meeting and received a proclamation from the Board regarding the 2011 Power Parade. Mrs. Reid received the Proclamation from the Fayette County Board of Education Chairperson, Terri Smith. The Proclamation urges the PTO officers, administrators, teachers and students of the Fayette County Elementary schools to participate in the worthwhile cause which raises money that benefits children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned in every community, including our own.
The 2011 Power Parade will mark the 20th year that Fayette County elementary students have raised funds for children their own age who are in need. Over the past 20 years, Fayette County school children have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. The 20th annual Fayette Youth Power Parade will be held the week of March 29th – April 1st in all 17 elementary schools in Fayette County. Over 9,000 students will participate in this event which raises funds for Fayette Youth Protection Homes, a non-profit organization which offers a safe haven and supportive services for children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect.
Students will solicit pledges in the community and “earn” their money by participating in a daily walk-a-thon held during Physical Education classes. The student who raises the most funds during the weeklong drive will win a special Grand Prize. Each child who raises $25 or more will receive a t-shirt. The deadline to turn in pledge money is April 1st.
Fayette Youth Protection Homes operates a residential group home for school-age children known as the Friday-Johnson Home. At the home, which is located in Brooks, children receive comprehensive services in a loving, home-like environment. The organization also oversees a private foster care program as well as a clothing and supply closet for foster children in Fayette County and surrounding areas.
