Zoning & Land Use Map Update – Proposed maps now online for review
Council will consider adopting new Zoning & Land Use Maps for Peachtree City on October 7. Part of this process will include incorporating the recently adopted the Open Space – Public (OS-P) and Open Space – Conservation (OS-C) zoning designations, which separate the existing Open Space (OS) zoning designation into two zoning districts. Cell Tower Ordinance
The latest draft of Peachtree City’s Cell Tower Ordinance, which Council will again consider on October 7, is now available online at www.peachtree-city.org/towers . The page includes the latest draft of the ordinance (September 13) and the presentation to the Planning Commission from the same date, which shows the potential tower sites.
November 2 General Election – Early Voting Underway, Sample Ballots Available
Early Voting is now underway 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, at the Fayette County Elections Office in Fayetteville. Advance voting will expand to the Peachtree City and Tyrone Libraries between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the week of October 25 – 29. No voting will occur on Monday, November 1, and residents vote at their regular polling place on Tuesday, November 2. Visit www.sos.ga.gov/mvp/ for sample ballots and to locate your polling place.
Community Safety Reminder – Report Suspicious Activity
A recent incident in Tyrone reminds us all to be vigilant in reporting suspicious activity to your Police Department. A couple of weeks ago, a Tyrone resident left her garage door open when she went out for a short time. Upon returning home, she found a garage door opener had been removed from a vehicle in her garage. She did not call the police to report it. A few days later, she heard her garage door open and called a friend to come and check it for her. Her friend arrived to find a man in the garage armed with a knife. An altercation with the intruder resulted in cuts to the woman’s friend. Officers were not called to the scene for approximately 20 minutes, and the suspect remained at large. Although the suspect dropped the stolen garage door opener, the homeowner picked it up and replaced it in the vehicle. No useful fingerprints could be pulled from the device due to it being handled. The suspect is described as a black male, 5’10” to 6′ in height and approximately 185 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans, a black shirt, and a ball cap and he has a short beard. The Peachtree City Police Department reminds all residents of these basic crime prevention tips:
1. Keep doors (home, garage, out building, and vehicle) closed and locked at all times – even when you’re home.
2. If you leave valuables in vehicles, place them out of sight – under a seat, in the glove box or console, in the trunk, etc.
3. Turn garage door openers off at night. Most newer models have a switch on the wall control to either lock the system down or turn the power off.
4. Call 911 or 770-461-HELP (4357) ANY TIME you see or hear something suspicious. MANY crimes have been prevented or solved and several people have found themselves in jail based on citizen reports of mundane suspicious activity.
5. If an incident occurs, refrain from touching anything at the crime scene and call 911 immediately.
Operation Pill Drop – Saturday, September 25 at Peachtree City K-Mart
The U.S.D.E.A., Safe Kids of Georgia, and the PTC Police are sponsoring Operation Pill Drop in the parking lot of K-Mart, at Braelinn Village Shopping Center, 400 Crosstown Drive. The program offers a free, anonymous, and convenient option for disposing of expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications to help protect families and the environment. Donations still needed –Library Book Sale
The Friends of the Peachtree City Library Corporation is still accepting donations of books, DVD’s, and CD’s for the October 16 Book Sale fundraiser. Donations can be brought to the PTC Library circulation desk during regular Library hours. A receipt for tax purposes is available.
