Fayette AARP Chapter 2936 Board of Directors and committee chairs met to develop plans for the National Day of Service scheduled for September 11, 2010. Rather than choosing one large project AARP 2936 broke their activities into four different time periods with different community groups being recipients.

The chapter’s community giving for 2010 is as follows: April 2010—hosted a plant sale where all proceeds of the sale were donated to the Fayette Senior Services Center for the proposed Therapeutic Garden. Also in April 2010 AARP 2936 coordinated a program where community residents and business donated items to be included in Mother’s Day gift baskets for the grandmother’s who are members of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group. AARP 2936 presented thirty gift baskets April 29, 2010. July 2010 found the chapter sponsoring the art activities of Camp Remix, a function of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren / FACTOR. AARP 2936 is a partner with FACTOR. The week of Sept. 5-12, 2010 AARP 2936 visited local assisted living/ nursing home centers for the purpose of giving a visit to the residents who have no family nearby. October will be the last community project for the year. The Board of Directors chose Fayette Samaritans as the recipient.

Fayette AARP 2936 meets the third Wednesday of each month 10 a.m. at the Fayette Senior Services Center, 4 Center Drive, Fayetteville, GA. The next meeting of AARP 2936 is Oct. 20. Robert Reeves will be on hand to appraise our antiques, letting us know if we have treasures in the attic or not.
