Coweta County commissioners last week approved a request from the City of Newnan to annex nearly 30 acres on the northwest and southwest corners of Roscoe Road and Millard Farmer Industrial Boulevard for commercial use.

Commissioners had no objection to a proposal by the city to annex the 29.228 acres. County Planning Director Robert Tolleson said the applicant was requesting the city’s CGN (General Commercial) zoning that is similar to the county’s C-7 (Major Shopping Center) zoning.

The main consideration voiced by commissioners as they approved the move was that the city increase the buffer to 75 feet from the customary 35 feet. Tolleson said conversations with city planning staff indicated that they would be willing to compromise and recommend a 50-foot buffer.

Tolleson also noted that the proposed commercial use for the property was consistent with the Coweta County Future Development Map and the current Comprehensive Land Use Map.
