Update: There were only two local contested races in the Coweta County July 20 Republican Primary. And voters in the races for the District 2 and 3 Coweta County Commission races had their say and re-elected incumbent District 2 Commissioner Tim Lassetter, while District 3 candidates David Stover and Bob Blackburn will face each other again in the Aug. 10 runoff.
The District 2 race on the Coweta County Commission featured Lassetter and challenger Eddie Wilson. Lassetter won the contest with 59.79 percent of the vote compared to 40.21 percent for Wilson. A total of 1,731 votes were cast in the election, with 1,035 going to Lassetter and Wilson receiving 696.
The District 3 commission seat was a three-way between candidates Bob Blackburn, George Harper, and David Stover. Incumbent Commissioner Randolph Collins opted not to run for re-election.
The District 3 race was close, with Blackburn garnering 909 votes, or 36.3 percent, Stover taking 893 votes, or 35.66 percent and Harper receiving 702 votes, or 28.04 percent.
The runoff for the District 3 commission seat between Stover and Blackburn will be held Aug. 10
