Deane Barrett Ellington, age 84 of Fayetteville and life long resident of Atlanta, born April 20, 1926, passed away July 15, 2010 after a brief illness. Her parents were Bess Sheats and David Frank Barrett. Deane was preceded in death by husbands, Robert S Ellington, Pierce Morris and Marshall Phillips.  She is survived by her daughters, Gayle Gilmore of Vero Beach, FL, Kay Rast of Charlotte, NC, Beth and Frank Hagan of Colts Neck, NJ, stepson, Terry and Cindy Ellington of Dallas, GA, nephew David and Valerie Mayo of Douglasville. She treasured her grandchildren Ran and Sharon Gilmore of Destrehan, LA; Dirk Gilmore and Scott Page of Stone Mountain, GA; Madison and Joanna Rast, Wesley and Kate Rast, and Molly Kumph – all of Philadelphia, PA; Zack Hagan of Brooklyn, NY; Andy Hagan and Matt Hagan of Highland Park, NJ, and was loved by great-grandchildren Wil and Andy Gilmore; Madeline and Julie McCrae; and Arik Kumph.

Deane attended Commercial High School in Atlanta, raised her family in Hapeville, and retired from Delta Airlines after 28 years. Deane was an active member of the Circle of Friends class at Fayetteville First Baptist Church. She worked with the Piedmont Fayette Hospital Auxiliary.

Deane loved traveling and visiting her daughters as they moved around the country. She loved gardening and seemed to know every plant personally. Deane never missed a chance to visit a new place, learn a new dance, try a new recipe or shop at a new store. A loving mother, wife and friend, she laughed easily and was comfortable with everyone she met. We remember Deane as a classic southern lady: polished, kind and always ready for a new adventure.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, July 24 at 2:00 PM at Fayetteville First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends after the ceremony in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Fayetteville First Baptist Seniors or Piedmont Fayette Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.
