The bridge replacement over Shoal Creek on Lower Fayetteville Road in east Coweta is not scheduled until 2012, but Coweta County commissioners Tuesday signed off on a request by the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (DOT) agreeing to close the road for 12 months during the construction period and approve a detour.
County administrator Theron Gay said commissioners’ approval was needed so that DOT can be sure that Coweta is willing to close the road and develop the detour.
The bridge construction project at Shoal Creek is located on Lower Fayetteville Road a short distance to the west of Fischer Road and to the east of Meadow Way. Gay said that section of Lower Fayetteville Road will need to be closed during the construction period that will begin in 2012 and is expected to continue for 12 months.
The detour will have Lower Fayetteville Road thru-traffic on the east side routed south on Bob Smith Road, then east on Stewart Road and north on Ga. Highway 54 and back up to Fischer Road and Lower Fayetteville.
