A severe thunderstorm with winds up to 60 mph made its way through Fayette County early Friday evening.

Peachtree City fire crews were summoned to the AMLI Apartments on Hyacinth Lane on the report of a lightning strike, but no sign of fire was found. County fire crews also responded to a home on Malone Road in south Fayette for a lightning strike but no fire was discovered.

The storm’s high winds resulted in numerous reports of trees down, many of which blocked roads and had to be removed. Some power outages were also reported both in Peachtree City and in unincorporated Fayette County.

Because the storm involved multiple cases of cloud to ground lightning, officials with the National Weather Service recommended people stay indoors until the storm cleared.
