Major General Jack C. Wheeler of Fayetteville, Georgia, was inducted into the US Army Adjutant General (AG) Corps’ Inaugural Class of the AG Corps Hall of Fame (HOF) at Ft Jackson, South Carolina, on 11 June 2010.
The AG Corps HOF is established to recognize and memorialize persons who have made positive, lasting and significant contributions to the US Army AG Corps. AG Corps HOF members are honored with a permanent display in the AG Corps Hall of Honor at the Adjutant General School, Fort Jackson.
In the early ‘70’s, General Wheeler served in the Pentagon office that developed plans and policies for the volunteer Army. In the early ‘80’s he was responsible for developing personnel policies and programs in support of the largest force modernization effort since WWII; in the mid ‘80’s he served as the Army’s Director of Enlisted Personnel Management, responsible for implementing the personnel aspects of the new tactical and strategic systems, and managing personnel combat readiness for the US Army; and in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s, he commanded the Army’s Recruiting Command for over four years, encompassing the period of Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and established unbroken records in attainment of quality accessions for the US Army. His overseas service included Korea, Vietnam, and Germany.
Since retiring in late 1993, General Wheeler has remained active in military manpower issues. From 1999 through 2007, General Wheeler provided consulting services to the US Army. In concert with the US Army’s Accession Command and the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE), General Wheeler has been, and is currently, involved with a number of education initiatives.
He also, serves on the National Executive Advisory Council for MISSION:READINESS (a national organization of senior retired military leaders ensuring continued American security and prosperity into the 21st century by calling for smart investments in the next generation of American children.)
General Wheeler is a 1961, graduate of North Georgia College and State University; 1979, graduate of Shippensburg State University (PA); and completed the Senior Executives in Government Course at Harvard University.
