It was an opening without the usual fanfare even though it will relocate nearly 100 jobs to Fayetteville.

National retailer Carter Children’s Clothing Company, Inc. in early May took advantage of Fayetteville’s Quality Jobs Grant Program and relocated its Information Technology (IT) center to offices on Brandywine Boulevard off Ga. Highway 54.

The city’s Quality Jobs Grant Program is similar to the programs that helped bring NCR to Peachtree City, said City Manager Joe Morton. The base salary level required to qualify for the grant was set at $50,000, Morton said.

With the relocation of the majority of the 100 jobs to Fayetteville from the company’s other locations around south metro Atlanta, those employees will have occasion to eat and shop in the Fayetteville area, he said.

The city’s job grant programs was established to promote economic development and job creation. The program will provide a grant of $500 per full-time employee provided the position is created, staffed and maintained for at least a continuous 12-month period. Grant funds will be allocated in the city’s FY 2011 budget, said Morton.

“We’re excited to have them here,” Morton said. “These are the kinds of jobs we’ve been trying to secure. And we hope to attract others.”
