The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society will present “An Evening of Moonlight and Roses” – its 33rd annual Spring Tour of Homes – on Apr. 17, in Newnan, the “City of Homes”. The tour is from 4 to 8 p.m. and includes homes predominately in the College-Temple Historic District. The format this year is new, as it invites an enchanting spring stroll between the featured homes in the early evening hours.

Also new this year is a display of antique cars at the History Center – the old Atlanta and West Point Railroad depot – from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., located in downtown Newnan at 60 East Broad Street, two blocks east of Courthouse Square. This historic rail freight depot has been restored by the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society and includes a display of historic memorabilia.

This year’s participants are invited to complete the evening at a wine and cheese reception from 8 to 9 p.m. at the Casa Bella Bed and Breakfast located at 51 Temple Avenue. This lovely home was built around 1911 for Dan and Carrie Dent Manget, one of the owners of the Manget Brothers Cotton Exchange and Manget Brannon grocery chain. The current owners, Ron and Patty Gironda, purchased the home in 1994 and have recently restored it to a beautiful inn. Guests will enjoy music performed by The Dorian Consort under the direction of Martin Rudy.

The following homes will be featured on this year’s tour: the Edmundson/Arnold/Lesante/Robertson home at 49 Jackson Street, a Victorian cottage built circa 1890; the Glover/Sport/Hallman home at 50 Jackson Street, a Colonial Revival home designed by R. Kennon Perry and built in 1923; the Parks/Hetrick/Enloe/McWhorter home at 27 Temple Avenue, a Folk Victorian style home built circa 1905; and the Stripling/Millians/Underwood/James home at 62 Temple Avenue, a Queen Anne cottage built in 1899. Also included will be the Male Academy at 30 Temple Avenue, a former private school for boys from 1883 to 1889. It now houses a museum operated by the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society. It contains an extensive collection of Civil War artifacts, battle flags, medical items and weaponry.

Tour tickets are $20. Tour tickets with Wine and Cheese Reception are $25. Tickets are available for purchase at the Male Academy, Scott’s Bookstore and the Coweta County Convention and Visitors Center. For more information call the Male Academy at 770-251-0207.
