Herman Rudolph Helton, age 81, of Fayetteville, Ga., left his earthly home and joined his Heavenly Father on April 4, 2010.
He was born on May 27, 1928 in Atlanta, Ga., the son of the late Sue King and Herman R. Helton. Herman graduated from Fulton High School in Atlanta. He served his country as a Merchant Marine.
Herman was the owner of Jimco Construction Company. For over 50 years, he built, remodeled and added additions to commercial buildings, schools, and churches within the surrounding counties. Mr. Helton was well known and respected for the top quality work that his company completed. Herman was a wonderful Christian man who was always willing to help others, especially those in need. He was well loved by everyone but especially by his family. To his children he was known as “Dad” and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Paw Paw.” Within the last few years, his two great-granddaughters had become the love of his life.
Herman is survived by his wife and constant companion of 62 years, Mary; one son, Randy (Wendy); three daughters, Denise (Phillip) Anderson; Debbie McGill, Angelia (Tommy) Wright; six grandchildren, Kyle Anderson, Kayla (Joseph) Johnson, Dylan (Heather) McGill, Jay McGill, Nathan (Jennifer) Helton, Mandy Helton; two great-granddaughters Maddy Johnson, McKenzie Helton and a host of other family members and friends. Herman was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church in which he was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and served on various building committees. He especially enjoyed the friendship of the men in his Sunday school class, “His Workers.”
The viewing for Herman will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at C.J. Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. His funeral will be held at Fayetteville First Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Glenn Stringham will be officiating. Herman’s final resting place will be at Westminster Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in Herman’s memory.
