The Fayette County Parks & Recreation Department is offering classes in West Coast swing and ballroom dancing in the coming weeks. Both are open to teenagers and adults.

West Coast swing is “a popular and evolving style of dance that is completely different from other ballroom dances.” Each class includes quality instruction followed by the opportunity to practice at the end. Beginner and intermediate level students are welcome. No partners needed. Advance registration is required by Wednesday prior.

Classes are Sundays from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Activities House. Session I is Oct. 4; Session II is Nov. 1; and Session III is Dec. 6. Fee is $10 per resident and $15 per non-resident.

In the ballroom dancing class, the instructor will teach standard smooth and rhythm ballroom dances. It is an opportunity to “have fun, build confidence and look great at social events.” Students can start at any point and attend one session or all of them. Beginner and intermediate students are welcome. No partners needed.  Advance registration required by Wednesday before each session.

Classes are Sundays from 4-6 p.m. at the Activities House on the same dates as West Coast swing. Each session consists of a one-hour lesson followed by a guided practice/review. Fee is $10 per resident and $15 per non-resident.

Register for both classes on the same date at a reduced cost of $16 per resident or $24 per non-resident.
