Murray recognized as Student Leader

Fayetteville resident Tahir Murray has received national recognition by being named a 2016 Bank of America Student Leader.

The Student Leaders program is part of Bank of America’s Summer Youth Employment initiative, and recognizes community-minded high school students across the country. The program connects them to employment, skills development and service.

There are approximately 200 students nationwide in the Student Leaders program and Tahir is one of five in Atlanta. As part of the Student Leaders experience, Tahir is completing an eight-week long internship at the East Lake Foundation where he learns about the management and operations of running a successful nonprofit organization. He also works with Drew Charter School as a teaching assistant for the school’s summer STEAM camp.

Along with his work at Drew Charter School, Tahir will volunteer with The First Tee of East Lake, a summer camp held for East Lake children to learn the game of golf. At the end of the summer, Tahir will travel to Washington D.C. to meet with other Student Leaders from around the nation.

Tahir is a rising senior at the McCallie School, an all-boys college preparatory institution in Chattanooga. His resume iincludes work as a student leader for the African American alliance club and he has also volunteered with Sox4Soles at his school, which works to provide socks for the homeless. The past two summers, Tahir has traveled to Columbia and Jamaica, helping out in local communities and teaching English to the native children.
