March 6 Presidential Preference Primary

City Council Retreat this Friday & Saturday
The annual City Council Retreat will be held this Friday & Saturday, March 9 & 10, at City Hall. Discussion topics will include the VC3 Technology Assessment, the proposed Facilities Bond and associated projects list (Friday morning), Public Facilities and Recreation Improvements and budget impacts, the Storm Water Utility and future financing, and the 2013 budget (Friday afternoon), with discussions continuing Saturday morning. Friday morning will kick off at 8:00 a.m. with a meeting of the Peachtree City Government Finance Corporation, followed by an 8:15 a.m. Special Called Meeting of City Council. Retreat begins at 8:30 a.m., and will continue to approximately 5:00 p.m. Saturday hours are expected to be 9:00 a.m. – noon. The public is welcome.
Reminder: No Dumping in Greenbelts
Property owners, residents, and landscaping companies are responsible for ensuring that all yard waste is disposed of in a proper manner. Proper composting techniques, use of the City’s recycling center, and contracting with your garbage company are acceptable forms of disposing of yard waste. Dumping yard waste in City greenbelts, landscape buffers, or easements is illegal. It can also lead to a variety of environmental issues such as rodents and flooding. So before you throw your grass clippings across the cart path or dump your branches in the woods, remember it may not even be your property. Contact your garbage company to find out about curbside yard debris pickup – there is a current list of approved residential curbside sanitation companies on the City’s web site at www.peachtree-city.org/garbage. The Peachtree City Recycling Center off Highway 74 S at Rockaway Road is open Wednesdays, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Graffiti Incidents – $500 Reward
The Peachtree City Police are investigating several reports of graffiti in multiple locations throughout the city. Not only is graffiti unsightly, but it also has a tremendous economic impact on our city. Each incident requires officers to respond and investigate the crime. Additionally, Public Works staff must then purchase materials and repaint or resurface the affected area. In an effort to stop the graffiti, the Police Department is offering a reward of up to $500 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

PTC Police Offer MedReturn Prescription Drug Take-Back Program
The Peachtree City Police Department is now able to accept unwanted prescription medications at the Police Department Headquarters, 350 S. Hwy 74. The MedReturn program is very similar to the National Prescription Drug Take Back Days, but allows citizens to dispose of unwanted prescriptions Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The MedReturn container is located in the lobby of PD and is locked at all times, so citizens can be assured that their personal information is safe. As an added security measure, the medications are incinerated on a weekly basis at the facility. The MedReturn Program cannot accept needles/sharps, syringes with needles, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, empty containers, inhalers, medical equipment, or hydrogen peroxide.
Poetry at the Peachtree City Library – March 14
The Friends of the Peachtree City Library will present readings by poets Carrie Bennett and Brigitte Bird on Wednesday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. The program will be held in the Floy Farr Room, lower level of the Library. Carrie Bennett is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and the author of Biography of Water. Brigitte Byrd is the author of Song of a Living Room, The Dazzling Land, and Fence above the Sea.

Project Updates:
Landscaping Maintenance Pruning – Peachtree City’s landscaping contractor is performing extensive maintenance pruning in medians and City-maintained subdivision entrances and landscape beds to return shrubs to their appropriate size. The contractor has an arborist on staff, so even though the pruning may seem extreme in some locations, the plants will re-establish in the spring at their intended size.
Wilksmoor Timber Cutting – MacDuff Parkway & Hwy 54 West – The contractor for John Wieland Homes has begun clearing timber (selective timbering, NOT construction clearing) from the property on north MacDuff Parkway (past Centennial / Cedarcroft / Wynnmeade / Chadsworth). Please watch for logging trucks in the area in the coming weeks.
PATH DETOUR – Southside Church on Ebenezer Road – The path entering southern Peachtree City on Ebenezer Road is TEMPORARILY OPEN. The path will be blocked periodically due to construction at the Southside Church site. When the path is closed, path users going to/coming from Ebenezer Road, Strathmore Lane, Creekside Way, and Robinson Bend Trail should use Robinson Bend Trail to The Estates to Loghouse Road to access the path system by Oak Grove Elementary. The project should be completed by mid-April.
