Martha Tarrant

Martha Mae Tarrant was born on December 14, 1924 to Artie Mae and Martin Kelley.  She died peacefully on July 20, 2017.

She was lovingly called “Granny” by not only her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but by many neighborhood friends both large and small. She was a member of Christ Church at Whitewater.  She enjoyed being with people and especially had a fondness for the women’s circle meetings at church.  Working as an office manager in Atlanta and returning home where she had a sewing project was a daily ritual.  Martha was an accomplished seamstress.  Her love for sewing brought joy to those who were lucky enough to get a doll or stuffed animal made by her.  She also crocheted beautiful afghans gifting them to those she loved.  She took sewing classes at every opportunity.  For a while, she served as president of Fayette County Business & Professional Women and was active in several other clubs and organizations.

Martha was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Phillips, and her husband, William “Bill” Tarrant, along with six of her ten siblings.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Corman (Wayne); son, Robert Burroughs (Diane); son-in-law, Terry Phillips (Freddie); step-son, Allen (Susan) Tarrant; grandchildren, Troy and Vance Corman, Kimberly Etheridge (Arthur), Robert Burroughs (Masha), Cory Burroughs, Trent Phillips (Krissy),  Stuart Phillips (Amy),  Kelley Rumsey (Mike), Kendra and Ryan Tarrant; and great-grandchildren, Chance and Cole Corman, Zachary Etheridge, Niko and Ashton Burroughs, Troy Phillips, Emma, Sam, Jenna and Kelsie Phillips, Emily, Michael and Ava Rumsey.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, Ga.  Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park, Ga. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday evening, July 22, 2017 at the funeral home.
