Gun drawn, deputy nearly run over during chase through PTC, Fayette
One car run off road, another struck during pursuit
Citing "an ongoing criminal investigation," a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has declined to provide details of a police chase that happened more than two days ago through Peachtree City and unincorporated Fayette County.
The spokesperson said ICE anticipates releasing details later this week but did confirm the pursuit was part of an ICE investigation.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of a Ford Expedition was chased by marked and unmarked police vehicles going south on Peachtree Parkway near Lake Kedron. The SUV driver tried to run over a sheriff’s deputy who was standing in Peachtree Parkway with his gun drawn, the eyewitness said.
The deputy had to dive out of the way to avoid being struck, the eyewitness said.
Law enforcement apparently apprehended the driver on Ga. Highway 54 west of Piedmont Fayette Hospital.
The assailant, who was driving a Ford Expedition, also ran at least one vehicle off the road, the eyewitness said.
Local law enforcement officials are mum about the chase. All comment on the incident is being deferred to the federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency.
Peachtree City police did confirm that a minor motor vehicle crash was caused during the pursuit but that crash did not involve any law enforcement vehicles. That crash occurred at the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Hwy. 54.
