A Fayetteville man died Sunday evening after his motorcycle rear-ended a car on County Line Road near Plantation Parkway in southeast Fayette, sheriff's deputies said.

Mark Cook, 25, appeared to have driven his 2007 Yamaha motorcycle at high speed immediately before the collision, which occurred at approximately 6:09 p.m., deputies said.

Cook was driving south on County Line Road when he struck the rear of the car, a 2007 Dodge Caliber driven by Lisa Clark, 40, of Fayetteville. Clark's vehicle was also southbound on County Line Road at the time, deputies said.

Cook was thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries, deputies said, adding that he was pronounced dead at the scene. Cook was alone on the motorcycle and was wearing appropriate safety gear at the time of the crash, deputies said.

The traffic enforcement section of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation, but charges are not anticipated in conjunction with the crash, deputies said.

This is the first fatal motor vehicle crash in unincorporated Fayette County this year.
