It was an agreement of support that carries no obligation for supplying personnel or funding as the Coweta County Commission June 3 approved an Intergovernmental Police Service and Assistance Agreement with Tri-Cities Narcotics Task Force.

The agreement with the sheriff’s office was first signed last year and, as in the past, signifies only support for task force activities but with no mandatory participation. Coweta’s support was sought since a portion of the city of Palmetto is situated in Coweta County.

“As per the Tri-Cities Narcotics Advisory Council, Coweta County is not obligated to contribute funds or personnel to the Tri-Cities Task Force,” the agreement said. “Specifically, Coweta County is not required to share any funds forfeited that were being used in the illegal drug trafficking trade.”

Task Force Commander J.H. Midkiff reiterated Wednesday that the agreement carries no obligation of support of any kind.
“The agreement says that they support us and we support them,” Midkiff said. “We have a history of working with Coweta County on drug issues.”

Tri-Cities Narcotics Task Force is composed of personnel from Palmetto, Fairburn, College Park and Hapeville.
