The Starr’s Mill Panthers accomplished one of their goals with a 9-0 victory Monday over Region 2-AAAA rival Northgate in Newnan — sealing the No. 2 seed from the region and, thus, earning a home playoff series in the first round of the state playoffs.
Starr’s Mill (16-8, 12-3 region) will host a doubleheader in the first round of the playoffs May 9 vs. a soon-to-be-determined opponent.
The victory was Starr’s Mill’s third straight, and it avenged an embarrassing 15-5 loss at home to Northgate in the first week of this month.
Drew Johnson threw a three-hit, complete-game shutout for Starr’s Mill, upping his record to 6-0.
David Norman and Ed Cook carried the Panthers at the plate; Norman went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBI, and Cook went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.
Danny Beadling and Austen Wiley also had hits and RBI for Starr’s Mill.
