Two co-defendants testify against Rainey

A Lumber City, Ga. man was sentenced to 35 years in prison and a $600,000 fine Tuesday after he was convicted by a jury of attempting to traffick in cocaine and marijuana in June.

Kenneth Shamar Rainey, 22, was also found guilty of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The sentence was handed down by Superior Court Judge Christopher C. Edwards, who advised Rainey to spread the word in prison that Fayette County is no place to deal drugs.

Rainey was arrested in June along with two others at a local gas station when he attempted to buy a kilo of cocaine and 25 pounds of marijuana from an undercover agent from the Fayette County Drug Task Force. The purchase price for the transaction was $36,500.

Rainey's co-defendants pled guilty Monday morning to related charges: Randy Wayne Sims, 31, of Fern Brook Drive, Atlanta and James Riley Ponder Jr., 29, of Bay Court, Riverdale. Both testified against Rainey in his trial.
