The Tyrone Town Council voted 3-2 Thursday in favor of exploring the possibility of purchasing sewage capacity from the Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority.

Councilman Paul Letourneau made the motion for Tyrone to consider hooking onto Peachtree City's sewer system for up to 500,000 gallons a day. Councilman Michael Smola seconded Letourneau’s motion. Councilwomen Grace Caldwell and Gloria Furr voted against the motion.

Mayor Sheryl Lee provided the deciding vote.

"We need to explore the opportunity with Peachtree City to see how much it costs," Letourneau said.

Caldwell was adamantly opposed to looking into expanding Tyrone's sewer system with Peachtree City's help.

"If we're using only 20-25 percent capacity now, I doubt we need any additional sewer," Caldwell said.
