‘Tis the season. A tally of those qualifying for elected office as of press time Tuesday included a modest list of candidates from Tyrone, Peachtree City and Fayetteville.

Tyrone’s list of qualifiers includes Don Rehwaldt for mayor, former town planning commissioner Ken Matthews for Post 1, along with consultant Eric Dial and current planning commissioner Jesse Nasianceno for Post 2.

Those announcing their candidacy but not qualifying by press time include current Councilman Mike Smola — who is running for mayor — technology services manager Tracy Young for Post 1 and computer security specialist Gordon Shenkle for Post 2.

Qualifying for the Tyrone election ends Aug. 31 at 4:30 p.m. The qualifying fee is $288 for mayor and $144 for council seats.

In Peachtree City, three candidates have qualified for two city council posts. Retiree Don Haddix and Councilman Mike Harman, recently appointed by the council to replace Judi-ann Rutherford, have qualified for the Post 1 seat.

Business owner Dar Thompson is the sole qualifier for Post 2, with Councilman Stuart Kourajian having announced that he will not be seeking re-election.

Others who said they would qualify include college student Timothy Hoyle and auto salesman Michael King. Also expressing interest are Mark Hollums and Gerald Nozilo.

The qualifying period for the Peachtree City election ends Aug. 31 at 4:30 p.m. The qualifying fee is $180.

Fayetteville’s lone mayoral candidate qualifying so far is current Mayor Ken Steele.

Councilman Wilson Price has qualified for his Post 1 seat and, for Post 2, former Councilman Al Hovey-King and sales representative Mickey Edwards paid their qualifying fees.

Qualifying for the Fayetteville election ends Aug. 29 at 4:30 p.m. The qualifying fees are $342 for mayoral candidates and $234 for council seats.
