The contemporary praise team from Peachtree City’s Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, GraceFlock, was featured at the Assembly of the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which met June 1-3 in Atlanta.

After presenting a workshop on the opening afternoon, GraceFlock led a morning worship service, which showcased original songs by members Lans Rothfusz and Gary Pederson.

Southeastern Synod includes 172 congregations in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee.

The synod elected The Rev. H. Julian Gordy as its bishop. Assuming office Sept. 1, Bishop-elect Gordy will serve a six-year term.

Born in Newnan, he earned degrees at Mercer University and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C. He has served congregations in Morristown, Tenn.; Ocean Springs, Miss.; and Franklin, Tenn.

Gordy succeeds The Rev. Dr. Ronald Warren, who was bishop 1995-2007, and who served as assistant to the bishop for eight years before that. Warren has accepted a call to join Lutheran Disaster Response.

Warren’s wife, Neva, has been Christ Our Shepherd’s church administrator for more than 17 years. The Warrens will move to Ohio this summer.

Installed as voting members of the National Assembly of the ELCA, which meets in Chicago in August, were Christ Our shepherd’s senior pastor, John Weber, and COS member Mary Kay Moore. Moore also serves on the Synod Council.
