PTC Rotary doesn’t support candidates

On the front page of the April 19, 2006, The Citizen is an article of “political analysis” by John Thompson entitled: “Who Wants to Run in ‘06.”

In that article Mr. Thompson said, “(Eric) Maxwell ... is a prominent member of the Peachtree City Rotary Club, which is the closest the county has to a ‘kingmaker’ organization.”

He also said, “... Maxwell could win the race with (Randall) Johnson and the Rotary Club behind him.”

It is true that Eric Maxwell is a “prominent member of the Peachtree Rotary Club.” He is a past president.

The Peachtree City Rotary Club emphatically does not support individual candidates for public office; nor does it take sides on political issues. If the club did otherwise, Rotary International would have grounds for dropping the club.

The club does encourage people to vote. It does sponsor a “Get Out The Vote” forum before elections.

Please correct the opinion expressed in The Citizen by John Thompson.
