On Cheney: get past it, media

I always thought a journalist should ask a good question, listen to the answer, then build on that answer to ask the next question.

All Brit Hume did to Vice President Dick Cheney is repeat his own question three times, after receiving the same, perfectly logical, complete answer from the vice president TWICE. Sadly, that question (paraphrased) simply was, “Why didn’t you tell US first?”

Get past it. I guess the national networks are miffed that they didn’t get to spend 10 hours speculating on the story and interrupting prime time with “Breaking News” bulletins. It must be tough to have to suddenly report a story with all the facts in hand.

I think Mr. Cheney should be admired for not trying to sensationalize a very upsetting, unfortunate accident. It is hard enough on the victim’s family and all involved just to deal with the situation. The national news media shouldn’t be chastising him for getting the facts together before reporting it. There are much worse things in the world to worry about.
