Although the specific assignment is unknown at the present time, the upcoming trip follows the Jonesboro Stake sending approximately 250 volunteers to Meridian, Miss., on the weekend of Sept. 10 and Sept. 11, and another 50 volunteers to Slidell, La. (the church's command post for Katrina relief efforts) on the weekend of Oct. 1 and Oct. 2.
Given the amount of work to be done in Mississippi and Louisiana, the LDS Church plans to continue sending volunteers, aid and supplies (cleaning, hygiene and school) to the area for the foreseeable future.
The Jonesboro Stake of the LDS Church includes some 4,100 members in congregations in Coweta, South Fulton, Fayette, Clayton, Henry, Spalding, Pike and Upson counties.
