Enjoy one of Broadway's most popular musicals transferred to the big screen when The Villages Amphitheater presents this year's final Family Fun Film Night August 13. A free screening of "The Phantom of the Opera" will give music lovers and romantic suspense "affectionatos" something to sing about Saturday as Gaston Leroux's classic French villain swings into action.
All are familiar by now with the story which has been filmed numerous times since Lon Chaney first terrified movie patrons in 1925 with his skeletal visage. Since then, Claude Rains, Herbert Lom, and Robert Englund have donned the dreaded mask in dramatic remakes.
Finally, the version set to Andrew Lloyd Weber's haunting score is given the full Hollywood treatment starring Gerard Butler as The Phantom and Emmy Rossum as Christine Daae, the young soprano fleeing from his clutches. Co-starring Patrick Wilson as love interest Rauel Viscount de Changey, "Phantom" is sure to make the Villages filmic swan song for 2005 a show to remember.
Enjoy an atmospheric romp through the catacombs of Paris as you relax in the cool evening air. Admission is free. Gates open at 8 p.m. Show-time is at 9 p.m. or dark. This film is rated PG-13 fro brief violent images and runs 2 hours and 23 minutes. For more information visit villagesamphitheater.com or phone 770-461-6029.
