Kroger stores in Atlanta, Macon, Savannah, Huntsville and Knoxville participated by selling shamrocks for $1 or $5, as well as hosting special events such as hot dog sales at their stores. The shamrocks were posted anywhere and everywhere around the stores for customers to see. The Peachtree City Kroger on Peachtree Parkway North was the one of the top 10 fundraising stores, single-handedly raising $6,860.
Mr. Bruce Lucia, President of Kroger's Atlanta Division, presented MDA's Local Telethon emcee, Ken Cook of FOX5TV, with two checks totaling $349,290. $50,000 has been designated for MDA-ALS research and services in Atlanta at the MDA-ALS Clinic at Emory Rehabilitation Center.
The check presentation was held June 2 at a luncheon to thank the top 10 fundraising stores in the Division. Jacob Walker, an MDA recipient, attended the luncheon with his parents Jimmy and Debbie and his two brothers Jared and Johnny. Jacob thanked everyone for helping send him and other kids to MDA summer camp.
This year's campaign topped the $1,000,000 mark in Kroger's efforts to raise funds for MDA.
