Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney Scott Ballard has agreed to dismiss a criminal charge filed against a Peachtree City karate instructor accused of "hugging and kissing" a minor at his job.

Jose DeJesus Rojas, 31, of Spring Forest Court, Sharpsburg, was originally charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes following a May 28 incident at East-West Karate at 1981 Ga. Highway 54 West. The incident involved a 15-year-old teen who also worked at the business.

A Fayette County deputy allegedly spotted Rojas "hugging and kissing the child in an unlit training room," while conducting security checks in the area about 2 a.m. May 28. A warrant for Rojas' arrest subsequently was issued.

However, after intervention from the victim and her parents, Ballard decided to dismiss the charge Friday.

"The victim and her parents expressed no interest in the case and every interest in dismissing it," Ballard said Monday.

Since the incident, several residents have came out in support of the instructor and condemned the officer for allegedly defaming Rojas' character. However, Ballard said he finds no fault with the officer.

"I have absolutely no problem with the way the officer conducted himself or the investigation into the matter, and best I can tell was the officer was trying to make sure the doors were secure at night," Ballard said.
