Mercy golfer are region 5-A champs
Our Lady of Mercy's boys golf team won the region 5-A championship, qualifying them for a trip to Savannah to play for the Class A championship.
Wade Binfield, the Bobcats' star golfer, shot a one over par in the region tournament and was the Low Medalist. This was the second consecutive win for Binfield, a recent golf scholarship signee to Berry College.
Mercy's Athletic Director Bill Schmitz termed the win a double one for the school, citing Binfield's low medalist score and the fact that the entire team snared the region championship outright with an undefeated season.
"We are really excited about this win, especially since this is only the second year that the school has fielded a golf team," said Schmitz, who added that the goal of the team was to "match Wade" as they knew he would do well.
