GHP students selected

Fayette has 22 finalists who will attend the 2005 Governor Honors Program at Valdosta State University this summer.

GHP is a six-week summer instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Activities are designed to provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become independent, lifelong learners.

The selection process begins with a teacher nominating a student for outstanding performance in a particular area from each high school. The student is then interviewed at the county level, and if selected, proceeds to interviews at the state level. A total of 675 students are selected from thousands of nominees throughout the state to attend the program.

Fayette's finalists are as follows: (Fayette County) Sara Condit, brass; Brittney Edmonds, communicative arts; William Massie, voice; (McIntosh) Roger Pincombe; Liliya Plotkina, communicative arts; Jay Prosser, social studies; James Reilly, woodwinds; Bryan Saxon, voice; (Sandy Creek) Ashley Ellis, mathematics; Marshall Jordan, mathematics; Mikael Jury, visual arts; Michael Ruple, social studies; Dani Slaton, mathematics; (Starr's Mill) Andrew Ash, mathematics; Megan Beyer, communicative arts; Davis Grisham, piano; Nathaniel Lee, percussion; Brian Mcglade, Spanish; (Whitewater) Joshua Adair, mathematics; Hamza Hasan, communicative arts; Jessica Martin, dance; and Rachel Spencer, biology.
