Three adults and two minors were taken into custody Friday following a drug bust executed at a north Fayette County home guarded by five pitbulls, officials said.
Fayette County drug agents had to shoot two of the dogs that attacked when they entered the premises to serve a search warrant, officials said.
"We executed search warrants there on North Bend Trail and we recovered ice," said Capt. Mike Pruitt of the Fayette County Drug Suppression Task Force. "The house was a disaster. There was dog feces everywhere. We had to shoot down two pitbulls for attacking the officers."
Brian Wallace Tanner, 25, of North Bend Trail, Jonesboro; Diane Lieb Ballenger, 35, of Taylor Court, Riverdale; and Kevin Douglas Street, 34, of Brookline Court, Cumming, were rounded up after agents charged into the home and found ice, a pure and expensive form of methamphetamine.
Tanner, Ballenger and Street each were charged with possession of meth and possession of drug paraphenalia. However, Tanner received an additional charge of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana during the bust.
Two males including a 15-year-old and 16-year-old also were charged in the incident.
There were five pitbulls at the residence, which is an apparent violation of a county ordinance. The ordinance allows residents to have three animals. Residents with more than three must have a kennel license.
Officials made a startling discovery during the drug bust.
"The mother was suppling meth to her two sons," Pruitt said of Ballenger. "We later found out that one was not her son. One was actually a runaway from the Department of Family and Children Services in Clayton County."
One of the teens tested positive for methamphetamine by Fayette County Juvenile Court officials, authorities said.
But the night wasn't over for agents, who executed a second search warrant for methamphetamine at a Sharon Drive residence in Fayetteville.
Ice also was found in the home and warrants are pending on one of the occupants, Pruitt said.
Ballenger and Tanner remain in custody at the Fayette County Jail. However, Street was released Sunday after posting a $17,800 cash bond, officials said.
Ballenger is being held pending receipt of a $12,300 bond, and Tanner is being held pending receipt of a $30,000 bond, officials said.
