The first goal was to read six books in one month, September to October. With such a short turnaround time, teachers were surprised to find that 40 students, 36 percent, met the goal. Those students were treated to breakfast.
The second goal, to read 12 books by December 16, proved to be more successful than the first with 51 students (46 percent) meeting the challenge. Those students enjoyed an ice cream social.
The yearlong challenge will end in May with the final reward being a pizza party and movie for those who achieve the 25 book goal by May 20.
