Five Fayette students headed to state Geo Bee

All five of Fayette's middle schools will be represented at the 2005 Georgia Geographic Bee.

Students qualifying for the state competition include Robert Worley, sixth grade, J.C. Booth; Kelly Menchinger, eighth grade, Fayette; Will Kearney, eighth grade, Flat Rock; Sanjay Sridaran, sixth grade, Rising Starr and Jack Slagle, eighth grade, Whitewater.

Each year 100 students from throughout Georgia are selected to compete at the state bee. Winners from the school-level geographic bees are given a written test to see if they qualify to become contestants at the state level. Only the top 100 scorers are selected. Students in grades 4-8 are eligible for the competition.

The state bee will be held April 1 at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. The winner of the state bee will advance to the National Geographic Bee that will be held in Washington, D.C. this May.
