The program is based on the Catholic Catechism. The readings in the book provide direct quotes from the Catechism, and give references to verses in the Bible from which the Catechism teachings come.
The discussion questions are designed to help one see how the Catechism teachings relate to everyday life. The session also gives some ideas on positive acts one can do during the following week to even further deepen their understanding of the faith. Finally, to prepare for the next session, suggested paragraphs from the Catechism for reading are given.
"When I was first introduced to the Why Catholic program, I got excited about it, said Mike Trantum of Peachtree City. "I often have questions about what the Church teaches about some topics. I have picked up the Catechism and thought, 'Wow, this is a big book! I'll never wade through all of this.' And then, I put it down and think that I'll get my questions answered some other time. Of course, my questions don't really get answered that way.
"Then along came 'Why Catholic?' I could see that this was a way for me to learn more about Catholicism and get to know some more of our fellow parishioners. Seems like a good idea to me."
Sessions began Ash Wednesday but interested persons may still enroll. For more information, contact Holy Trinity Catholic church, 770-487-7672.
